Let me ask you one question, What is your favorite time of the year? Is it when you get a present from your loved ones, or is it when you get the highest score of mathematics exam in your class? If I were to pick, I would pick neither of them. My Favorite time is that time after rain. I just love the feeling of fresh air after all of its dust being washed over by the water of the rain, I just love the dampness of my clothes after its being showered by the rain, I just love to play with the puddle that was created by the rain, but what I love the most about it is the smell or the scent after rain.

Petrichor is caused by some plants which secrete oils during dry periods, when the rain comes, these oil are being released into the air. The second reaction that creates Petrichor occurs when chemicals produced by soil-dwelling bacteria known as astinomycetes are released. These aromatic compounds combine to create pleasant petrichor when the rain hits the ground. You can also smell petrichor when you're watering your garden in a sunny day.
Petrichor not only can be smelled after the rain, its also can be smelled when its about to rain. Another scent associated with rain is ozone. During a thunderstorm, lightning can split oxygen and nitrogen molecules in the atmosphere, and they in turn can recombine into nitric oxide. This substance interacts with other chemicals in the atmosphere to form ozone, which has a sharp smell faintly reminiscent of chlorine. So when people said that they can smell the rain coming, it may be actually the wind from an approaching storm has carried ozone down from the clouds and into the person nostrils
I love Petrichor because it makes me have this flashback moment, its like when you're listening to an old song your parents played for you, it brings back to the days when I was only six years old, when I used to play outside after the rain with my cousins after being locked in our house because our parents didn't allow us to play under the rain.
Petrichor is a sign, a sign that the tough days are over, by tough I mean the dry and hot days and will be soon replaced with the calming raindrops, the eraser of the dust in the dusty air. It is also a sign that a rain will come and warn you to search for a shelter or ask you to come out and play under the giant shower that is rain.
